Baseus Bowie MC2: Open-Ear Comfort, Surprising Bass, Value
The world of audio is constantly evolving, and open-ear clip-style earbuds are rapidly gaining traction for their unique blend of awareness and comfort. Leading this charge is the new Baseus Bowie MC2 Open Ear Clip On Earbuds, a product that not only embraces this innovative design but also refines it with impressive performance and value. Weβve put these earbuds through their paces to see if they live up to the hype.
Design & Build
Clip-style earbuds are a distinct fashion statement, and the MC2 carries a design reminiscent of Baseus’s earlier models. The case boasts a pleasant, pebble-like shape with no sharp edges, making it incredibly pocketable β it even fits comfortably in a jeans coin pocket. We appreciate the choice of two colors, black and a lighter shade, offering some personalization. For those who lead an active lifestyle, the IP67 rating for the earbuds themselves (not the charging case) is a significant advantage. This means they are protected against dust and water, making them ideal for runs, walks, or even unexpected rain showers without fear of damage.

Comfort & Controls
Comfort is paramount for open-ear designs, and the MC2 excels here. Each bud weighs a mere 5 grams, contributing to a barely-there feel. The flexible bridge design makes them exceptionally easy to put on and take off, a notable improvement over some other models that require more manipulation. A thoughtful addition is the inclusion of three pairs of removable ear cushions, enhancing both grip and comfort.
Physical buttons on both earbuds provide comprehensive control, a welcome feature, especially when hands might be wet or gloved during outdoor activities. While the single tap function isn’t customizable, the double tap, triple tap, and long tap actions are fully configurable within the companion app, including volume controls. This is perfect for managing media playback on the go. Our only minor quibbles are the lack of audible feedback when pressing the buttons and their slightly soft feel, occasionally leading to missed presses. However, these are minor points and not deal-breakers. Unfortunately, call controls are not customizable, offering only answer and hang-up functions without volume or mute options during calls.
Call Quality
The call quality on the Baseus Bowie MC2 is acceptable in a pinch, but it does struggle with significant background noise and strong gusts of wind. We strongly recommend activating the “call enhancement” toggle in the Baseus app, as it made a substantial difference in both quiet and noisy environments.

Battery Life
Baseus has delivered a significant upgrade in the battery department. The MC2 boasts an impressive 11.5 hours of playback per charge for the earbuds, with a total of 55 hours when factoring in the charging case. We’ve yet to hear a low battery chime during our extensive testing, which speaks volumes. Fast charging is also on board, providing 3 hours of listening from just a 10-minute charge β perfect for a quick power-up before a workout. However, wireless charging is not supported.
Extra Features
The companion app, while requiring login and location permissions (which can thankfully be bypassed using guest mode), offers several useful features. Multipoint connectivity allows simultaneous connection to two devices, and a device list within the app clearly shows current connections. While there’s no “pull connection” feature, a dedicated pairing button on the case simplifies connecting to a third device. A low latency mode is also available, catering to gamers or those who prioritize synchronized audio and video. Spatial audio, a feature added via a software update, offers music and cinema modes for an expansive soundstage, though we personally preferred the default sound profile.
Sound Performance
Open-ear clip-style earbuds inherently face challenges in delivering consistent and impactful sound due to the lack of an ear canal seal. This typically results in a noticeable absence of deep bass. However, the Baseus Bowie MC2 surprised us with its capable sound profile. During our testing with “Hotel California” (live MTV Unplugged version), the low percussion note, often inaudible on similar earbuds, was clearly present and audible with the bass boost enabled.
We highly recommend keeping the bass boost toggle activated in the app, as disabling it results in a more trebly and mid-focused sound. The app also provides several EQ presets and an 8-band equalizer for further customization, though we found the default bass-tuned setting to be excellent. The MC2 delivers one of the most enjoyable sound experiences in this form factor.
The earbuds support SBC, AAC, and LDAC codecs, ensuring high-quality audio transmission. The app also allows for left and right channel balance adjustments, a thoughtful inclusion for users with hearing differences.
