Today, we’re diving into the Sennheiser Accentum True Wireless earbuds, a new addition to Sennheiser’s mid-range collection. Let’s explore if these earbuds live up to the momentous expectations set by their predecessors, the Momentum True Wireless series.
Price and Features
Priced at €199, the Sennheiser Accentum True Wireless earbuds come with active noise cancelling (ANC) and transparency modes. Sennheiser has managed to include impressive noise-cancelling features in the accompanying Smart Control app. While they don’t reach the noise-cancelling prowess of the Sennheiser Momentum 4 True Wireless, they offer a decent level of attenuation, making them suitable for conversations and even flights.
Active Noise Canceling and Transparency
During a bike ride in the Netherlands, we tested the transparency mode in high winds. Initially, the wind noise was overwhelming, but switching to noise cancelling with wind noise reduction improved the situation significantly. However, this mode also suppressed other important background noises, which could be a safety concern during outdoor activities. The mid or low transparency modes proved to be a better balance between wind noise reduction and environmental awareness. CLICK HERE to listen to some ANC samples.
Design and Build
The Sennheiser Accentum True Wireless earbuds sport a new design, reminiscent of the Bose QC Ultra series. Available in black and white, they come with an IP54 rating for dust and water resistance, making them suitable for sweaty workouts. The touch controls are customizable through the app, allowing for personalized controls for media playback, volume adjustment, toggling between noise cancelling and transparency modes etc.
Call Quality
For calls, the Sennheiser Accentum True Wireless earbuds performed admirably. The wind noise reduction during bike rides and the clear voice capture in noisy environments were impressive. You can answer/hang-up, adjust volume and mute the microphone straight from the buds. You can also enable an auto-answer feature which will pick up the call automatically when you wear the buds.
Comfort and Fit
The earbuds feature round shaped silicone tips that provide a secure and comfortable fit, even during extended use. Despite their compact design, they maintain a strong seal in the ears, enhancing both comfort and audio quality. Sennheiser gives you 4 sizes of tips to choose from.
Audio Quality
Equipped with a 7mm dynamic driver and a 5-band equalizer, the Sennheiser Accentum True Wireless earbuds deliver a rich and detailed sound. The sound signature is consistent across different modes, providing a balanced audio experience whether ANC is on or off. While they lack the aptX Adaptive/Lossless codec support found in the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless series, they still offer aptX, AAC and SBC codecs, making them suitable for most users. Battery Life
Sennheiser advertises battery life of 8 hours with ANC off and 6 hours with ANC on from the earbuds. And you get an additional 20 hours from the case. In our testing we got 5 hours and 28 minutes with ANC on. The wireless charging feature and quick charge support (10 minutes for 1 hour of playtime) are convenient additions.
Conclusion
At $200, the Sennheiser Accentum True Wireless earbuds offer a compelling mix of features, performance, and design. While they may not match the top-tier Momentum series in every aspect, they provide excellent value for their price. Whether you’re looking for reliable call quality, solid noise cancelling, or a comfortable fit, the Accentum True Wireless earbuds are a worthy consideration.
